Our meals are more concentrated than most dry foods because nothing in them is filler. Most dogs need about a third less by weight than they are used to. Start from the table, then adjust to your dog’s condition: you should feel the ribs easily without seeing them.

Puppies
Feed Free-Range Turkey & Cranberry from weaning to 12 months (18 months for giant breeds), split into three meals a day until six months, then two. As a rule of thumb, a puppy eats about twice the adult amount for its current weight at three months, one and a half times at six months, and the adult amount from ten months.
Seniors
Hill Lamb & Brown Rice has less fat and more fibre, and lamb is gentle on older stomachs. Reduce the adult amount by 10 to 15 % for dogs over eight who move less than they used to, and split it into two meals.
Switching from another food
Take seven days: a quarter Fern & Fetch for two days, half for two days, three quarters for two days, then all of it. Dogs with sensitive stomachs are happier with ten days. We wrote a longer piece on this in the Journal.
Water and storage
Dried food needs water: keep the bowl full. Store the bag closed, in a cool cupboard, and use it within six weeks of opening. The food contains no synthetic preservatives, so it will not last the eighteen months a supermarket bag does. That is rather the point.
